The 8th workshop of the Hertie Network on Digitalization’s (HNoD) will take place on Friday, 1 February 2019 at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. The overall objective of the 8th HNoD workshop will be to discuss and determine the next steps of the network for the upcoming two years (until 2020) and is planned as a "working session". The title of the meeting will be "Shaping HNoD 2020". The working session will bring together interested HNoD members and, for purposes of guidance, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hammerschmid, Professor of Public and Financial Management at the Hertie School of Governance, as one of the heads of the newly established Centre on Digitalization.

The working session has three objectives:

  1. to discuss and agree on the vision and format(s) of HNoD for the future;
  2. to plan the subjects and formats of the 4 HNoD meetings until end of 2020, i.e. June 2019, November 2019, June 2020, November 2020;
  3. to elaborate in detail dedicated working groups for the above four HNoD meetings, including their formats, contents and organisation.

The goal of the HNoD "working session" is to discuss and elaborate a vision/strategy of the HNoD for the next two years, until the end of 2020. The idea of the "working session was triggered by the fact that the HNoD is expanding in terms of members who come from various professional backgrounds. The aim of the working session is to recall the original objectives of the HNoD, to find out about the evolving interests of current and new HNoD members regarding the activities of HNoD, in particular the members' interest in shaping and driving the HNoD forward. In shaping the future of the HNoD, Professor Hammerschmid has kindly agreed to support the HNoD in this activity, also in view of his wish to create synergies and potential topics of collaboration between the HNoD and the newly established Centre on Digitalization at the Hertie School of Governance.

The event will consist of two formats: A group discussion under the guidance of Prof. Hammerschmid and four dedicated working groups that plan and organize the four HNoD meetings until autumn 2020.
